I have been considering to
write an article in technological solution for sustainable
development---a case of environmental biological technology.
I am so sorry for it
because I once promised you in autumn last year. This few days we are preparing several research proposals to
National Foundation of Natural Science and "863" program.
The deadline of one of the application will be 10th this
month. I will attend
the workshop Biohydogen'2002 which will be held in 21-26 April,
Netherlands. I have to
submit a full paper to the meeting organizer before 21st this month.
Now I am leading the
Institute of Environmental Sciences which is little institution with
only 11 members. But
most of them have Ph D degree.
Our institute divided to three laboratories which are
environmental biological technology, environmental chemistry and
environmental assessment and planning.
I am undertaking two lectures so far for graduate students,
which are modern biological technology and application and
biological wastewater treatment.
|
I am also supervise graduate students.
The research projects being undertaking in my lab are
photo-derived biological hydrogen production, analysis of
microbiological cluster in polluted environment, and de-chlorination
bacterium.

I
am now a columnist with Shenzhen Economic Daily, wiring a weekly
column on socio-economic topics, since Mid September 2001. So far

in international trade and reforestation in Shenzhen are published.
The SED has a circulation of 300,000 daily, to all over China and
some overseas Chinese communities.
In
my consulting to Jiulongpo District government in Chongqing 2001,
the notion of sustainable development is also stressed in for its
urban expansion plan of the West Part of the district.

Following is some brief
introduction of my ACTIVITIES in 2001. I hope it'll be useful for your report.
Associates Activity Wang
Jue, deputy director of Pollution Control Division of Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, associate of Cohort-9 of Lead China, who is responsible for waste manage and air toxics pollution control in Shanghai-southeast of China, is now engaging in:

A. building a medical waste management system in Shanghai area. She and her team have finished a survey on basic situation and they are going to draft a series of standards for medical waste management this year. According to their schedule, an incinerator for medical waste will operate at the end of this year.

studying on air toxics management in Shanghai. Since Shanghai
Environmental Protection Bureau starts to consider Hazardous Air
Pollutants (HAPs) control, Wang Jue and her colleagues plan to build
a primary framework on HAPs control during next 2-3 years. They plan
to start with the routine emission from stationary sources first.
According to their plan, they will focus on basic information
collecting in 2002 and 2003, including law, regulation and
standards, main pollutants and main sources in Shanghai, while their
colleagues of Shanghai Academy of Environmental Science will study
on relevant standards, research and assessment.
