The Third National Training Session for Cohort-10 Of LEAD-China
(22 -28 April, 2003   Beijing)

1. Session Objectives

This is the second face-to-face national training session for LEAD-China cohort-10. As the associates have finished the orientation session and the distance learning process by now, they have had a detailed understanding of the LEAD program, the basic subjects related to the environment and sustainable development, and also of the complexity of the environment and development issues. At this stage, the associates are expected to go deeper in the field, to think and explore the possibilities to the road of sustainability, applying the interdisciplinary analytical approaches they have learned before to the practical situation both at home and abroad. Moreover, since the associates will attend their first international training session in Mexico in April with the topic of ?Crossing Water Thresholds: Future challenges of managing a threatened global resource?, we accordingly arrange a forum for providing the associates with the opportunity to understand, discuss and debate the institutional innovation, taking the water resource management in China as a case.

The resource persons who will be involved are the core faculty members of LEAD-China program and some invited guest speakers and experts. Their views may not agree with each other and possibly disagree with the views of the Associates. But they serve as catalysts to stimulate our thinking and our critics, as LEAD believes that we can improve ourselves through understanding and analyzing differences.

The session aims to enable Associates

  • To clarify the problems that they met during the distance learning and explore the solution to the environment and development issues with the interdisciplinary approaches.
  • To begin building the new vision of sustainable development by exposing themselves to different views and ideas of the sustainable development, taking the water resource management as a case.
  • To further develop the leadership skills through exercises, simulation and learning from systems thinking models.
